My mom blocked my Internet without telling me first...
Now I can't use aim, yahoo, and windows messenger.
I told her to unblock it...
but it seems like she's still worrying about the "addtional fee" when I accidentally tap some app that needs internet.
(Because I don't have Internet Connection so I can't send MultiMedia Messages as well as using mobile IM.)
Is it possible to block just certain features (Everything but phonecall, text, multimedia text, IM applications)through ATT?

If you don't want to be completely blocked you should read this thread as it tells how to stop data access by making a dummy network profile.  Roll Eyes

Also I understand there is some plan she can get with ATT that actually blocks certain areas of your data. It costs $5 a month I believe and I cant remember the name of it.

You are talking about something else. Dont change network settings for your sms or mms or they wont work correctly anymore. ims is video calling and is not free to use.

unlimited text you get sms messages through sms server and mms messages through mms server.  Best to turn ims off.

The built in IM application is part of your text plan. Each IM counts as 1 text.

Agoattamer's suggestion for turning off MediaNet works well.

Two questions though.  What is CV and what is MMS?

CV is cingular video. There are high quality video clips and some tv shows you can watch if you have a data plan. Only works with ATT and if you have a data plan.

MMS is text messaging with pictures, video, or audio. SMS(text) messages do not use data and are sent off of the voice band. However when you include a picture the picture must be sent using data. So if ATT blocks your data then you get no picture messages. But the data to use mms is not put on your bill if you have a text plan.

This is the whole purpose of my method so those can still use mms but have everything else blocked on their phone.

And in case anyone asks, IMS is for video share. That is another paid service. I recommend that IMS be disabled because I have known people to get charges even if they dont use that service.
