I'll leave this guide up as it is shorter and accurate, but for those looking for a larger guide with step by step pictures, Agoattamer has posted his guide on the Solstice forums. Click anywhere around here to see it.

First off, thanks to Agoattamer on the Eternity and Impression forums for finding the master key. It greatly simplifies app installation, and allows for safe installation of apps without a data plan.

Second, if you don't have a data cable (since unlike the impression, our phone doesn't include one), there are some good links to ridiculously cheap cables on this thread (at the eternity site).

OK, with that out of the way, lets get to work. I cannot yet attach files I believe, so i will first redirect you to the Impression site to download TKFE and JADGen. TKFE is a program that allows you to browse and edit much in the phones filesystem, and JADGen is a program that will create the necessary jad files for installation with TKFE.

(Text below is copied from Agoattamer's post on Samsung-Impression.org)

Jar files for games and applications can be found everywhere. But you also need the jad. Download the jadgen.exe file from below. Unzip it somewhere like on your desktop. Then drag the jar file into it. It will create a jad file for you inside the same folder as the jar file.

Connect your phone to your pc using TKFE

On your phone navigate to the exe/java/appls folder

Now that you are in applications, create a new folder. Name it after what you are going to install.

Now you will need to place the .jar & .jad files of the program you will be installing in that folder. On the top half of TKFileExplorer, browse  to where you saved the jar and jad files and download them to the folder you created.

Install as many games and apps you want.

Each jar and jad combination needs its own folder. EX: operamini5beta.jad and operamini5beta.jar go in the Opera Mini folder

When all jars and jads are in the folders then disconnect from TKFE

Open up your dial pad and enter the following, *#6984125*#.

Choose INTERNALS and enter the following, *#3818790*#.

Now scroll down and choose Storage Settings. Then update Java DB, followed by update apps database.

Now you are finished.

Go to Menu>Applications/Applications. Your newly installed app should be visible!!!

I'm having trouble connecting to TKFE. I can't seem to get my computer to connect using the PC Studio option. I talked to tech support at Samsung and after talking to a level 3 agent they told me that if I don't have an OEM data cable it won't work to connect. Is anyone having the same problem. To be clear the problem with this is that I can't set a COM port to connect TKFE with. Any help would be great.

I had to manually type in my COM Port (COM7) for me.

So do you have an OEM data cable? I tried typing in the port but every time I link through the PC Studio option my computer can't install the drivers. This is what I was discussing with Tech support. Even after installing just the drivers it still won't work. Any thoughts?

Yeah it tries every time but always fails. Samsung says it's the data cable because its not OEM. I'm hesitant to believe that. Even if I try to manual find the drivers it still doesn't install them.

Have you tried to connect your phone in mass storage mode?

Yeah that works, but I still have the same problem with TKFE not having a port to connect with.

Did you put your phone in pc-studio mode? It wont connect unless it is in that mode.

Have you looked in your add/remove programs? do you have drivers for any other phones in there that might be causing a conflict? If you were able to install pc-studio then you installed the drivers.

Set your phone to pc-studio mode.
Enter this like you were making a phone call.    *#197328640#
press 9 for common
press 6 usb configuration
and make sure the tick is in 1 for samsung usb. If it is not select it.

Hhhmm. No other drivers installed. I agree about the drivers. They should be installed. I checked the phone settings and Samsung USB is selected.

What OS are you using. I know for a fact that there are problems with Windows 7. I have to change the USB mode to Qualcomm, which I can tell you how to do after you have exhausted all other options.

I'm running Vista. I know how to change it to Qualcomm but I don't have the drivers.

Thank you. I tried it but it said the drivers were not intended for this platform. Just to clarify, I'm running 64bit. Not sure if that affects anything here. I tried looking for the right Qualcomm drivers but couldn't find anything.

64bit vista is definitely a problem. You should have mentioned this at first. And i should have asked. There is a version that connects with the eternity. But it will not find your phone. I know because pc-studio 3 will not work with the impression either. But the drivers it installs may work with TKFE.

Of course you need to uninstall pc-studio and all samsung drivers in your control panel first before installing.

Here are some links.

Also try different usb ports. Compatibility mode.
