bluetooth, I don't think it is possible with bluetooth from the get go, I don't think it connects to the phone in the correct mode, but by using a usb first the connection was created and then the windows bluetooth recognizes it. I am not a windows guy, mac for the last 10 years and have connected to all my phones via bluetooth with out a problem, except with the new phones I have don't have access to all the filesystems. I tried every method with bluetooth to get into this phone and couldn't I then downloaded tkfe and ran it on xp under vmfusion, tried like mad to get it to connect via bluetooth. broke down bought a data cable, and that worked, and yes after doing that once per boot up session I can then re-connect via bluetooth as well. But I have heard there are guys running linux that can get at the samsung filesystems via bluetooth. If I got ambitious I would port it over to an easy to use os x app.

I am not trying to use bluetooth.  I have a data cable that works great with the NewPCStudio software.  I just can not get TKFE to find it.  I can force a port but it looks like a baud rate mismatch at this point.  I could be missing something else and I have killed everything that looks like it is from the NewPCStudio in the Taskmanager so I know that is not running and tying up the comm port.  I have been working on this for a week and have had no success.

i'm having difficulty like others with "communication link is lost".

tried to connect on 2 pc's(xp & vista)= same result "communication link is lost"
made sure the phone was in the correct usb "PC MODE"
phone connects to PC STUDIO with no issues
tried to restart phone
tried to connect with the phone off
typed in the COM# on each PC since it was not in the drop down tab

any other suggestions?

You did get the com port from the samsung mobile modem's properties in the device manager? Try different timings when connecting.

Reboot both. Plug phone in. Wait about 10 seconds. Start TKFE. Check for com port if not then add it. No space between com and number.

If you get error, reboot phone with out disconnecting or closing tkfe. Try and connect again.

If that doesnt work, close everything. Reboot phone. Start up TKFE. Then plug phone in. Wait about 10 seconds and try and connect.

Close any un-needed apps running on pc like messengers, browsers

Do you still have eternity? If you can connect to TKFE with it then there should be no issues. TKFE cant tell the difference between phones.  And both would use same port if using same usb port.

As long as you have the right com port keep trying. Reboots. Connect phone and wait 10 seconds before starting TKFE and trying to connect. Or wait till screen goes black and falls asleep.

If you are using Windows XP and a data cable you bought from amazon, and you are unable to connect to TKFE, this post is for you!

A lot of people have suggested different methods to get TKFE to work.

1. Agoattamer has a great tutorial here: http://www.samsung-solstice.com/how-to/how-to-install-gamesapps-w-data-cable-tutorial/

But this step didn't work for me:
"Now Connect your USB Cable to your phone. Make sure the phone is set to 'Samsung PC Studio'.
(Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> Select USB Mode -> Samsung PC Studio)
Let the drivers install."

2. Some people have suggested using stand alone usb drivers:
http://www.samsung-solstice.com/how-to/solstice-standalone-driver/

However, this method suggests going into the device manager and clicking on the items with yellow exclamation points and trying to force an install that way.

This didn't work for me either.

3. Some people have suggested that if you buy the cheap cable on amazon, it won't work, and you must buy an OEM cable because samsung has designed the drivers not to work with non-oem cables. Posters say they have confirmed this with samsung tech support.

I think this is probably true, and here is my solution based on this support doc:
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200912/20091210115543703/Install_DeviceDriver_SGH-T746_EN.pdf

Basically, you go into device manager, click on universal serial bus controller, look for the device called "USB Composite Device". There may be more than one. Right click and click on the details tab. Look for the one that says "USB\VID_04E8'. Right click on update driver, install from a list, Don't search I will choose, and then select "Samsung USB Composite Driver."

BAM. As soon as I did this, the yellow exclamation point next to CDMA Technologies disappeared, and I was able to use TKFE.

Good luck!

My TKFE has never displayed a COM port to choose.  I simply type it directly into the box - COM4 in my case.  Maybe you could try that process until you find out which port is the one that connects?
