Well if you installed The jad and the jar that I put up on the first post with TKFE then the gps should work. You cant get this version from google. Only from this thread will you get a version that works with the gps.

If you installed correctly then the gps should work. I take it you are getting the blue circle with the approximate location?  You should go outside to give the gps a chance to connect with the satellites. Doesnt work most of the time inside.

Yes ATT uses permissions according to signings to allow 3rd party apps to see the memory card, go to the internet, use bluetooth, and use the gps. The only way to bypass these permissions is installing with TKFE or doing the process called goatbreaking.

Our phones are designed to install only by downloading from a wap site like ATT, rumkin, google mobile, or getjar. Using TKFE is the method used to get around that for those that dont have internet.

So yeah ATT tries to stop us from installing applications. But as you can see we can do better.  Grin

Got it to use GPS finally. I started the trial of the ATT Navigator and got GPS. Then opened the Google Maps app which then was using the GPS. Dont know if that had anything to do with it but it did start.

As always, Thanks for giving us this site to use.

I just dont understand. Where do I get the google maps app from and how do I get it to my phone? then I use TKFE to copy the jar & jad to the folder that the app is in? then I use the tutorial to enter codes so it will work ??
Sorry I'm not understanding this but this is my first attempt at the phone.

The jar and jad is on the first post. And yes you need to follow that tutorial for TKFE and installing games and apps.

1) Delete any previous versions of google maps
I have installed Google maps using the browser on the phone. I need to delete that right?

2) Download the jar and the jad from below to your computer
I have downloaded the jar & jad files and they are on my pc.

3) Install Google maps with the TKFE install method.

The first thing in the tutorial says '
This is if you want to install game/apps without a data plan '
I have a data plan. Does this make a difference?

If I use the tutorial.  I am up to the point where it says 'When copying the game onto the phone, it is easier to create a folder in the phone and transfer the .jar file then the .jad file one at a time.'

do I just create a folder in ANY directory on the phone and call it 'xxx' directory or does it have to go in a google maps directory in a certain directory?

Then it says 'Once you have finished transferring all the games/applications you want.  Do the following:'

Where do I get google maps to transfer it??

The rest of accessing admin settings looks straight forward but theres a big gap for me on the getting and transferring of apps&games.

You need to follow the TKFE tutorial. Make a folder in the games folder on your phone. exe/java/games/

Call it google maps

Put your jar and jad in it.

Then do the updating process.

You need a data plan because googlemaps will download the maps that it needs depending on your coordinates.

Finally got it. I presume its not to function like a real GPS just outlines a route and its up to you to follow it. I did not understand that all you needed was the jar & jad files and did not need the Google Maps app itself. BUT, I was not able to get TKFE to let me creat a folder under the apps folder.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the detailed instructions.  Took me awhile and with a little perseverance, I installed google maps on my wife's solstice. It rocks.  The GPS locked on faster on her phone than on my Blackjack 2.  I also used this site to fix my connection issues with PC Studio.  Keep up the good work! Smiley

Did you install as I said on the first post? I dont think you did. You installed from mobile google or uploaded the jar to rumkin or some wap uploader. You will not get the gps either to work. I suggest you use my files and the way I said to install. Then you wont get asked all the time to connect.

Installed this on my phone with the data cable.  When I open up the program, it tries to load the TOS, and eventually gives up with a connection error.  Browsing the web with media net works fine.  I'm in Australia, if that has something to do with it, but Google claims to support Australia for mobile maps.

Any suggestions?
